ePlatform School Spotlight of the Week: Sydney Girls High School, Australia.
At Sydney Girls High School, the Ethel Turner Memorial Library is named in honour of the novelist Ethel Turner, one of many famous 'Old Girls' of Sydney Girls High School.
We reached out to Mrs Williams, their Relieving Teacher Librarian to see how they were keeping their students engaged with digital reading. Read their response below.
We are very pleased with how well the girls are using the eBooks.
Our main strategies used to publicise ebooks are:
• When we first subscribed to eBooks, the teacher librarian wrote an article in the school newsletter publicising them.
• All staff and students were advised by email about our new subscription to eBooks.
• All new students receive information about eBooks in their Student Guide. They all attend a technology talk where the IT manager shows them how to access eBooks.
• There is an eBook poster display in the library.
• A screensaver publicising eBooks is featured on all library computers and all school computers.
• The red and white Wheelers eBook icon is in a prominent position on the school’s Homepage of the intranet. This makes it very easy for students and staff to access eResources.
• As another access point, the eBooks are integrated into our library catalogue. This means that when students or staff search for an item, they can immediately tell by the adjacent symbol whether it is an eBook or a print book.
The girls here enjoy using technology and have been very quick to take advantage of all the eBooks.
