I made a simple ‘how to’ pamphlet and walked them through issuing a book and all the features. The buy-in was huge and immediate. We also made a display of how to log in and use the books.

The ePlatform makes up a mobile library, and often learners and teachers can be seen looking for books together to help them develop specific parts of their own writing, looking for ideas, inspiration or research for projects, and enjoying books over the holiday breaks.

How We Started:
We read. We read and listened to what was on there. We shaped our book talks around physical and e/audioBooks and blended our recommendations so that students had options. We created posters for each book and identified clearly ALL of the formats in which this book could be read.
We then attached a genre sticker, an audio book sticker and an eBook sticker to the front of the poster reflecting which formats it is available in. The posters stay out on the floor in front of the students until everyone gets a book, then we collect them back in. Once students realise that they can actually progress a reading level or two by listening to their story in audio format, it opens up a new world. And once they realise that they can store the files offline and access them anywhere, reading becomes something they can do while waiting for Mum and Dad to collect them etc., not a homework task in itself.

I have a few students who have difficulty reading – not only the ability to read the words but also in being motivated to read. Using ePlatform has been an absolute God-send for my students. Once I have recommended an interesting book to them, they are keen to explore other titles available. Having the dyslexia friendly setting & the facility to alter font size, background colour etc the boys find it easier to progress through pages which gives them a sense of achievement & enjoyment. Parents have reported that for the first time they have seen their son reading independently. I am convinced that ePlatform has been the catalyst for these reluctant readers to discover the wonderful world of reading.
